Parish Councillors are the voice of our community and make real change. Parish Councillors are the champions of our community who invest time in local projects and issues to the benefit of residents and the neighbourhood.

Parish Councillors attend to the needs of local residents, local groups and businesses. They make decisions on local services, collaborate with district and county councils to adhere to local needs, and progress vital projects to invest in the future of the community.

We asked Pam Why did you want to get involved and why have you stayed?
 
💬 I retired from teaching in 2020 and decided that I wanted to give something back to the community in the form of my time and the experience I had gained over the years, and play an active part in providing services to the village. The Parish Council is the direct point of contact between individuals and the authorities that are responsible for many aspects of our daily lives. It is important that we engage with our community as it goes through the many changes that are on the horizon, from the new people we will welcome into Feering over the next decade, to the reorganisation of local government itself.
 
Pam, What’s the best bit about serving on the Council?
 
💬 Knowing that we can represent the community. It is great when local people feed back to us about what’s going on and about what we are doing for the village, so that we can make improvements when it is up to us, and make sure that Braintree District and Essex County councils are aware of our needs and interests.

We asked Ed Why did you want to get involved and why have you stayed?
 

💬 I have lived in the village for 24 years and both my boys attended Feering Primary School. From the first few weeks of living in our lovely village I had made friends and joined in with locally organised activities including Feering Parent and Toddler group which is still going strong today!

I run a local business and having decided to scale back my hours I really wanted to contribute or ‘give something back’ to our fantastic community from which I and my family have gained so much.

The opportunity to become a Parish Councillor absolutely fitted the bill! I am able to use my time and bring experience from my professional career to help as part of Feering Parish Council providing services to the village.

I have stayed in the role because I am proud to be part of a fabulous team who work hard to make a difference. The challenge of learning and understanding the responsibilities of a councillor at a truly local level has been educational and is so important.
 
Ed, What’s the best bit about serving on the Council?
 
💬 Being part of a team of welcoming likeminded individuals striving to represent everyone in the village. Making a difference in local matters and at the moment reviewing our play facilities for the future use of villagers young and old!

We asked Jo Why did you want to get involved and why have you stayed?
 

I wanted to represent the views of the residents of our village, making sure that their views are heard, and expressed/ passed on to influence both Essex County and Braintree District Council that do make the final decisions. Additionally to try and make a real difference to the life in our village, in making an impact to both local community groups, and preserving our green spaces.

I have stayed, as making changes / improvements takes time, commitment and effort, neither of which are by definition short term goals.
 
Jo, What’s the best bit about serving on the Council?
 
💬 To know that you a making a positive difference to life in the village, and representing residents views particularly around planning matters, and the continued challenge of more development within both the village and surrounding areas.
