On the morning of 14th July, a discarded disposable barbecue was found on Feering Playing Field, Rye Mill Lane.
This is an extremely serious matter. A discarded barbecue could easily start a fire, putting the playing field, wildlife, Feering Primary School, the Community Centre and surrounding area at risk.
Lighting fires or using barbecues anywhere on the playing field is strictly prohibited.
Let’s protect this space for our community. If you see anyone using a barbecue or lighting a fire on or near the playing field, please let us know. If there is an immediate danger, contact the emergency services.

Golf Not Permitted on Feering Playing Field
We have recently received reports of children playing golf on the playing field at Rye Mill Lane.
While we appreciate that this may seem like harmless fun, golf balls and clubs can pose a significant safety risk to other people using the field and could result in serious injury.
As a reminder, playing golf on the playing field is not permitted.
We would be grateful if parents could please remind their children that golf should only be played at appropriate venues.

Braintree District Volunteer and Active Braintree Awards 2026
Braintree District Council’s Braintree District Volunteer and Active Awards are back for 2026!
The awards are for us recognise and celebrate the people who make our communities stronger, healthier, and more connected.
These awards recognise the individuals, groups and organisations making a positive difference across the district through volunteering, sport and physical activity, and health and wellbeing.
The awards are an opportunity to recognise the individuals, groups and organisations who give their time to help our communities to be better, healthier places to live, work and play.
The categories this year include awards for Long Service, Inspirational Role Model, Volunteers, Health & Wellbeing and Sports.
The presentation event will take place on Wednesday 21st October 2026 at Hedingham Castle!
The closing date for nominations is 5pm on Friday 4th September, who in the Feering community deserves recognition for their services to the community?

Village Green Spaces
We appreciate feedback from residents about all aspects of village life. With regard to the green spaces in the village, we would like to reassure you that we are working hard with our new ground maintenance team to optimise the cutting and maintenance schedule with regard to the needs of wildlife and bearing in mind changing climate conditions.
Now that the ‘no mow May’ growth is being cut back, residents might notice that we are currently not cutting further when wild flowers reemerge. This is because there is little grass growth due to extremely dry conditions, and mowing at this time would cause damage to the turf and impair recovery once it rains again.
Rural Housing Week
Rural Housing Week 2026 was 6-10 July. During this week the Rural Community Council of Essex have highlighted the importance of rural housing and showcased solutions in action.
Affordable homes are essential to keeping rural communities thriving, supporting local people, jobs and services.
At RCCE, they support initiatives that deliver sustainable, affordable homes where they’re needed most.
This Rural Housing Week, the RCCE highlighted the challenges, shared real stories, and showcased solutions.
