Removal of Poplar Tree by Play Equipment
The Parish Council wishes to inform residents about an important decision regarding the large poplar tree located near the play equipment in our park at Rye Mill Lane. Following a consultation with the Parish Council’s tree surgeon, we have been advised that the poplar tree needs to be removed. This decision was not made lightly but is necessary due to several critical factors.
The primary concern is the tree’s size and the increasing risk of branch or complete tree failure. Given the proximity of the tree to the play area, this presents a significant safety hazard for children and families who frequent the park. Ensuring the safety of our community is our utmost priority, and we cannot risk the potential injuries that could result from falling branches or a collapsing tree. Consequently, the removal work is scheduled to be carried out on Thursday, 18 July 2024.
We understand that the removal of any tree, particularly one as large and prominent as the poplar, is a matter of concern for many residents. The Parish Council is acutely aware of our declared climate emergency and the critical importance of maintaining and enhancing our green spaces. Removing trees is always a last resort, undertaken only when no other viable options are available to mitigate significant risks.
In light of our commitment to protecting the environment, we want to assure the community that we will be taking steps to replace the poplar tree. A suitable alternative will be selected and planted in a different location where it can thrive without posing a hazard to public safety. The replacement process will be thoughtfully planned and executed at the right time to ensure the new tree can establish itself and grow healthily.
